The Indian voter ID card is an identity document issued by the Election Commission of India to adult domiciles of India who have reached the age of 18, which primarily serves as an identity proof for Indian citizens while casting their ballot in the country’s municipal, state, and national elections. It also serves as general identity, address, and age proof for other purposes such as buying a mobile phone SIM card or applying for a passport. It is also known as Electoral Photo ID Card (EPIC). So, it becomes mandatory for all us to have Voter ID Card so without any more delay let’s move to how you can apply voter id card in Meghalaya however before that just prepare your documents for voter id card.

Eligibility Criteria for Voter ID Card in Meghalaya

Every Indian citizen who has attained the age of 18 years on the qualifying date i.e. first day of January of the year of revision of electoral roll, unless otherwise disqualified, is eligible to be registered as a voter in the roll of the part/polling area of the constituency where he is ordinarily resident.

Here is How to Apply New Voter ID Card in Meghalaya Online

  • If you live in Meghalaya then you can also use the online portal to apply for the Voter ID Card. To begin the application process, you need to visit the CEO Website of Meghalaya. CEO stands for Chief Electoral Officer and each state has a different website for CEO. The link for CEO Meghalaya website is http://ceomeghalaya.nic.in/
  • Once you are on the website, go towards the right hand side of the screen and you will notice Citizen’s Corner. Under this column, there would be a list of services available to you. From here, click on Online Services/NVSP. This will instantly redirect you to NVSP portal. You can also access the portal directly by following the link nvsp.in
  • The full form of NVSP is National Voter’s Services Portal and this portal is to basically allow you to get various services related to voter ID. Once the portal is displayed completely, click on Apply Online for Registration of New Voter link. As soon as you click on the link, you will be taken to form 6.
  • Form 6 is used to apply for a voter ID card and to include a citizen’s name in the electoral roll. Once you are on the form, you can start filling up the form. It is very easy to fill the form and you would not need more than 10 minutes to completely fill the form. What is important here is to verify all the details entered by you.
  • Towards the bottom of the form, you will notice that you are prompted to upload your age proof, Address Proof, and your photo. Upload all the necessary documents and submit the form.
  • You will now receive an application number which you need to keep safe with you. You can save the number in your phone or you can also go ahead and write it in your diary. This number can be used to track the form in the later stages.

Here is How to Apply New Voter ID Card in Meghalaya Offline

Step 1: Get an application form from the Electoral Registration Officer or the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of your own constituency, or the Booth Level Officers of your polling station. This form is free of cost.

Step 2: Alternatively you can download the form from the website of the Election Commission here: Form 6

Step 3: Fill and submit the Form 6 along with the needed documents to the Electoral Registration Officer or the Assistant Electoral Registration Officer of your constituency or the Booth Level Officers of your polling station.

Step 4: After the successful form submission BLO will visit your residence address for verification purpose and then resubmit your details to CEO Meghalaya.
